Welcome to my cyberhome - Check me out!
I was born in Taiwan, and grew up in Indonesia. Thus, I really remember more of Indonesia
than the environment in Taiwan.
I was in Indonesia from 1975 through 1982, and gone to a school called Joint Embassy School,
later named Jakarta International School, JIS for short. I enjoyed my
stay in Indonesia, and will always remember the high school days. With the unstable political scenes right now, I doubt
that things are the same as back in 1982. Too bad the ethnicities do not get along in that country.
I certainly gained a great deal from my experiences learning beside kids from other cultural backgrounds. From Jakarta, I went on to
college at Cornell University. Bagged myself 3 degrees in 5 years, I was
tired to write another paper, or work on another project. I was ready for a 9-to-5 job; I wanted some $$$.
(Of course, after a few years of work and seeing countless bureaucratic politiking, now I think going to school was never
a burden at all, and researching projects ain't all that boring.)

I owe, I owe, so off to work I go ...

I'm into some unique, interesting things (well, I thought so). Of course, living in Northern California
really gives me a lot of freedom as far as activities/cultural events concerned. I've
had opportunities to sail with friends and flew in single-engine prop planes. The wonderful
weather here in the San Fancisco Bay Area combined with the melting pot cultures really
offer endless options for "playtime".
Once, I went to a Taiko concert at Stanford University. I was hooked.
The rhythms and beats made by the performers, who seem to be in a combination form of meditation
and intense concentration were astounding. Now, I try to catch a performance whenever I can.
Growing up in Indonesia, which is a foreign country to me, forced me to appreciate other cultures and religions. I leanrt
not to hand people things with my left hand, not to touch/pat a kid on the head, never, ever offer a Moslem
something that has pork in it! Indonesia has this famous tourist spot called Bali,
which is also a hotbed for surfers. In a Moslem majority country, this island is mostly populated by Indonesians of Hindu belief.
Out of the Hindu religion, a popular story that has passed down thru the ages is Ramayana. This gave to the famous
Kecak Dance (this guy did a fairly good job),
a really powerful, moving ("rock-your-seat" type) performance for anyone who has ever seen it. A choir, dance troupe accompanied by a
Gamelan band make up the bulk of this performance.
Being a Chinese, I've heard a lot of Feng Shui.
I finally took an introductory class of this subject from the UC Berkeley Extension. It is an interesting subject.
It is also called "geomancy", study of the relationship between the human consciousness and the dynamic energy matrix of the earth. (sounds deep, eh?)
It has to do with . I urge anyone who's interested in architecture, interior design, gardening, or even civil engineering to check it out!
I was first introduced to this game called Doom back in '94. I was instantly hooked.
I've never seen such realism, plus fantastic graphics on a PC before, only on the likes of Sun/SGI machines. The makers of this game, along
the road to riches, also developed an enormously popular game afterwards called Quake, but not before copycats out there
making similar games such as Duke Nukem (which I also enjoy).
Yup, I'm into some mundane things as well. Generally, I prefer racquet sports, such as
Badminton,Tennis, and
Squash. Something else that I recently got interested in is Paintball wars. This is a fast-paced
game which definitely teaches you the importance of teamwork. This recreation is as much a workout as the amount of effort you give. You can be
offensive, which can definitely take its toll on your body, or defensive and just hang back. The best part? You never really die
you get to "reincarnate". Wouldn't that be great if we can do this in real-life!
Another added advantage living in the beautiful Bay Area is the great hiking trails. There are lots of parks around that you're guaranteed never to run out of places
to visit. Any given weekend is a good time to explore the backwoods of California.
